Dragées are simply sweets or decorations used on cakes and other baked goods. They are usually round and have a colored shell with a sweet center of chocolate, nuts, fruit or sugar. In the context of custom cakes, the dragées we use are small, round sugar balls of assorted colors.
They add a modern feel to otherwise traditional looking cakes. Dragées are a relatively simple addition to cakes that make them look sophisticated without making the design too elaborate.
A favorite would be the metallic dragées that are usually silver-colored. These are not for consumption, but are for purely decorative purposes.
